Our Spiritual Heritage
ISKCON belongs to the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Vaishnava disciplic succession, a spiritual lineage through which the teachings of Lord Sri Krishna are received and transmitted from spiritual master to disciple.
ISKCON also carries forward the mission of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who taught the congregational chanting of the holy names of the Lord—sankirtana—as the process of spiritual advancement particularly suited to the present age. The chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra is therefore an essential part of the Krishna consciousness movement.
This spiritual tradition was carried across the world by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
The movement was established worldwide by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, whose mission continues to inspire millions through temples, educational initiatives, cultural programs, spiritual literature, and humanitarian service across the globe.
Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada : Founder-Acharya of ISKCON
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, dedicated his life to fulfilling the instruction of his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, to spread the teachings of Lord Sri Krishna throughout the world.
In 1965, at the age of 69, Srila Prabhupada travelled to America, and in 1966 he established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in New York. He travelled extensively, established temples, trained disciples and spread the practice of Krishna consciousness and Bhakti-yoga across the world.
Srila Prabhupada’s teachings emphasise hearing and chanting about Krishna, Deity worship, prasadam, devotional service and spiritual association. He also translated and wrote authoritative commentaries on Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Srimad-Bhagavatam and Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita. His books remain a foundational source of spiritual knowledge for the Krishna consciousness movement.
Following the mission of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Srila Prabhupada established the worldwide Sankirtana movement, inspiring people everywhere to chant the holy names of the Lord, especially the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra. His teachings and mission continue to guide ISKCON and inspire countless people towards a life of devotion to Lord Sri Krishna.
What Is Krishna Consciousness?
According to the teachings presented by Srila Prabhupada, the living being is an eternal spiritual soul, distinct from the temporary material body. The soul is constitutionally connected with the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna.
Krishna consciousness means bringing our consciousness back to its original spiritual relationship with Krishna.
The purpose is not merely intellectual understanding, but practical spiritual development through bhakti-yoga—loving devotional service to Krishna.

- Hearing and studying Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam

We seek to fulfil this mission by:
- Sharing Spiritual Knowledge : Presenting the teachings of Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Srimad-Bhagavatam and Srila Prabhupada's books.
- Chanting the Holy Names : Encouraging the chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra through kirtan and Harinama Sankirtana.

- Spiritual Association :Bringing people together to hear about Krishna, cultivate devotion and grow in spiritual life.
- Serving Society : Providing opportunities for seva, spiritual education and devotional activities.
Through these efforts, ISKCON Ballari seeks to contribute to Srila Prabhupada’s vision of a spiritually awakened society centred on Krishna consciousness and devotion to Lord Sri Krishna.
Seven Purposes of ISKCON
- To systematically propagate spiritual knowledge to society at large and to educate all people in the techniques of spiritual life in order to check the imbalance of values in life and to achieve real unity and peace in the world.
- To propagate a consciousness of Krishna, as He revealed in the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam.
- To bring the members of the Society together with each other and nearer to Krishna, the prime entity, thus developing the idea within the members, and humanity at large, that each soul is part and parcel of the quality of Godhead (Krishna).
- To teach and encourage the sankirtana movement, congregational chanting of the holy name of God, as revealed in the teachings of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
- To erect for the members and for society at large a holy place of transcendental pastimes dedicated to the personality of Krishna.
- To bring the members closer together for the purpose of teaching a simpler, more natural way of life.
- With a view towards achieving the aforementioned purposes, to publish and distribute periodicals, magazines, books and other writings.
